VPO ♡ Dansk Padel Forbund

BY IOANA IFTODE | 26.06.2020 at 10:46

Danish padel players, we have some great news for you! We are proud to announce that we are cooperating with Dansk Padel Forbund (DPF), the main sports organization in Denmark working towards strengthening and expanding padel in Denmark.

“We at the Danish Padel Forbund are really excited to see Viaplay getting into padel”, says Frederik Bentler, board member of DPF. “Both because it will be incredibly exciting to follow the World Padel Tour on viaplay.dk, but also because Viaplay Open will allow padel players of all levels to get a feeling of how it is to play a padel tournament in a safe setting at their local club or center”.

"The partnership means that all players from the Regional tournament and on, will get points to the official Danish ranking in padel"

Viaplay Padel Open is just as excited about the partnership. ”This is a step in the right direction”, says Emina Salic, project manager of Viaplay Padel Open. “We share the same goal, of increasing people’s interest and engagement in padel. DPF has been around for over a decade and has an established role in the Danish padel community. With them by our side, all of our efforts become amplified”.

The partnership means that all players from the Regional tournament and on, will get points to the official Danish ranking in padel. The points will get published in DPF’s official tournament and ranking system, RankedIN. RankedIN also gives players access to and join other tournaments and padel events taking place in Denmark. “[RankedIN] is of great value for both players and hosting centers as is provides easy administration, and DPF will be ready with support and see to that the tournaments run smoothly”, says Bentler.

This ranking benefit is something that players in the other VPO countries (Sweden, Norway, Finland) are not getting. “Of course, we would have liked this opportunity to be available for all players of Viaplay Padel Open. However, we did not receive the same unanimous response from players in the other VPO countries as we did from Danish players; that they really want the tournament to include ranking points”, explains Salic. Indeed, in early 2020, VPO did a market study where hundreds of players and center owners were asked for their input on the tournament. The results of this study formed the tournament’s set-up and rules. “I think this request from the Danish players speaks volumes of DPF’s work. They have truly set their mark in Nordic padel culture and succeeded in making tournaments a habit”.

So in conclusion, we have an exciting summer and fall ahead of us in Padel Denmark! Both Viaplay and DPF look forward to a lot of great games. “We are super excited to see who will represent Denmark in the International finals later this year and to see how the Danish players will perform against strong players across Scandinavia”, says Bentler.
